Administrative Matters

Drivers permit/license: If you have a student whose 15th or 16th birthday is approaching, you will need a current copy of a church school enrollment form (CSEF) when you go to take the test. You can pick one up at the school office during regular office hours on Tuesday or Thursday.

Work permits: CHILD LABOR LAW CHANGED. WORK PERMITS NO LONGER REQUIRED

The Alabama Child Labor Law has changed. On May 19, 2009, Governor Bob Riley signed into law House Bill 144. The new act reformed Alabama child labor enforcement standards, transferring the permitting process from the public school system to the Department of Labor. In addition, new record keeping requirements and administrative penalties were added.

Under the new system, work permits are no longer required for each minor child employed. In its place, employers are required to obtain a Child Labor Certificate in order to employ minors. A Class I Certificate is required if employing 14 or 15 years olds; and a Class II Certificate is required if employing 16 or 17 year olds. Each location of a business employing minors must obtain the proper certificate(s) in order to employ minors. The cost of the Child Labor Certificates are $15 each, and must be renewed annually.

This means that the student no longer has to acquire the permit; the employer must apply for the Certificates. The only thing required from a student is in the case of 14 and 15 year olds who are working. An Eligibility to Work form is required for each 14 or 15 year old minor child employed. This form can be obtained from the Crossroads office. The Eligibility to Work form must be kept in the employee’s file.

Employers must keep on premises a separate file for each employee under 19 years of age. The file shall contain the employee’s name, home address, date of birth, date of hire, proof of age, school of attendance, and time records showing clock in and out times, number of hours worked each day, and break times. The files must be kept for 3 years.

Change of address: If you move during the school year, please notify the CRCS office. Our newsletters are sent via bulk mail and will not be forwarded. So, please keep us updated so we can stay in touch. Also, please let us know if your email address or phone numbers change!

If you are NOT receiving e-mails from the CRCS office, that means we do not have your correct e-mail address! Please send an e-mail from your account to debbie@communitypca.net, so that we may correct that situation! Many news items come in between newsletters, and e-mail is the only way we have of communicating in between times.

Transcript Requests: If you need a transcript for your student (for college, to transfer to a different school, scholarship opportunities, etc.) please give me at least two weeks notice before you need it. The transcripts for graduating seniors will be completed as soon as I get your grades. Please note that I need your records before I can produce a transcript.

Church School Enrollment Form (CSEF): If you have a student who has turned 7 years old during this past school year, you need to complete a CSEF for that student and we will submit it to your local Board of Education. If you have moved from one school district to another in the past school year, you need to complete a new CSEF for each student in your family. AND, if you live in the newly formed Trussville school district, even though you have not moved, you need to complete a CSEF for each student in your family
