Upcoming Events

FRIDAY, January 29, 2010
EXHIBIT FAIR – set-up begins at 12 noon
TALENT SHOW – 7 pm
Community Presbyterian Church sanctuary

Back by popular demand … the Crossroads exhibit fair and talent show! We’ve changed the time of year from May to January, to encourage more participation! At least, that’s what we’re thinking and hoping! Stephanie Gunn will be organizing the event this year.

An exhibit fair is an opportunity Crossroads provides for your student(s) to share any science project or collection, arts and crafts, history project, writing assignment, artwork (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.) with the group. The idea is that you bring the work, set it up on tables around the sanctuary, and leave it up until after the talent show so others can view it. (You need to be there to take it home with you after the talent show.)

Set-up for the exhibit fair will be in the sanctuary from 12 noon until 2 pm. If you need to set up at another time, contact Debbie Landry or Stephanie Gunn to arrange another time.

The talent show will be in the sanctuary at 7 p.m. that evening. To do sound checks and rehearse with microphones or keyboard, you need to arrive by 5:30 pm This will be an opportunity for your student to share any musical or performing talent. Please contact Stephanie so that we’ll have some idea of who will be participating and what talent they will show, so that we can make a program.

For more information, contact Stephanie Gunn at gunngirl_1225@yahoo.com or (205) 532-3118.

PSAT/NMSQT Testing

Wednesday, October 14, 2009
9 am to 12 noon
CPC Educational Building

The 2009 Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) measures critical thinking skills important for success in college, including critical reading, math problem-solving, and writing skills. Taking the PSAT/NMSQT enables students to get feedback about critical academic skills, seek information from colleges, enter scholarship competitions, prepare for the Scholastic Aptitude Test, and initiate the college planning process. This test is usually taken in the junior year and is the qualifying test students must take to enter the National Merit Scholarship Corp. (NMSC) competitions for college scholarships that will be awarded in 2011. Students who meet published participation requirements will enter NMSC competitions for recognition and awards. Information about the NMSC programs, entry requirements, and scholarships to be offered in 2011 can be found at www.nationalmerit.org and in the 2009 PSAT/NMSQT Official Student Guide that will be sent to CRCS in September.

CRCS students will test on Wednesday morning, October 14, in the educational building at CPC. This is the only time this year that this test will be offered. The cost of $15 per student can be paid on the morning of the test. Forty-one students have signed up so far; we have room for nine more. If you have high school friends in other home school groups who would like to participate, we have room for them as well.

The PSAT/NMSQT Official Student Guide is available to be picked up in the Crossroads office. It contains sample questions with explanations, test-taking strategies, and information about the National Merit Scholarship Corp. programs. It also includes a full-length practice test. If you have not received an e-mail about this study guide, that means we don’t have your name on the list, so let us know that you DO want your student to take this test! Score reports will be returned to the school in early December and will be mailed to students’ homes.

Crossroads is offering a free seminar on "How to Get Started Homeschooling" on Tuesday night, July 14, 7 pm at Community Presbyterian Church in Moody.
